     After a rigorous nine weeks, all of the hard work and studying has paid off for hundreds of students. On Fri., Nov. 13, the quarterly honor roll breakfast, made possible by the PTA, celebrated almost 600 hundred students' academic accomplishments and rewarded them with muffins, croissants and cups of juice.
    Almost a quarter of the school was released from class early and packed the cafeteria to enjoy the provided food while chatting amongst friends and classmates. See the video.
    "Not only does it feel nice to know I've made good grades, but I never get to mingle with my friends anymore, so that's the best part to me," Student body president Keia Faison said.

People of the World cooks off PDF Print E-mail

    Soups, pies, fudge and cakes and other delectable, international treats were all showcased to students and staff who entered the People of the World(POW) cook-off.
    The POW cook-off, held each year in the media center, offered foods from around the world to all that come. For only a dollar, students were able to try every dish available.
    The dishes at the cook-off were entered into a highly selective competition, judged by a small crew of Riverside teachers. The winning cooks of the best dishes received prizes sponsored by Rudino's Pizza, The Carolina Theater, DECA and the Pirates' Den.

Drill team fights to keep reputation PDF Print E-mail

 The Riverside Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC) upheld their prestige in the drill competition at Terry Sanford High School last Saturday.

"Unarmed Regulation Flight got 1st place, Unarmed AS1 (Aerospace Science 1st-Years) Element got 1st place, and our Color Guard got 1st place," junior and Technical Sergent Akierra Smith said. Placing second were Unarmed Exhibition Element, Unarmed Exhibition Flight, and Armed Exhibition Flight.

College Application Week Helps Students Apply PDF Print E-mail

  Standing up for Carolina  North Carolina Free College Application Week kicked off on Mon., Nov. 16. Students may sign up in the cafeteria during all three lunches to participate in application support sessions held from Nov. 16-20.
    "We are really pushing it this year to get students involved and prepared for the application process," guidance counselor Jennifer Nauss said.
    Each day of the week is dedicated to a specific part of the application process. The lure for students is that many North Carolina colleges waive the application fee during the week.
    An essay workshop will be held on Tues., Nov. 17th during second and third periods. "Students can come in any stage of their essay. We are here to provide help starting an essay, setting guidelines, editing, and giving feedback," Nauss said.

    People of the World club members plan to bring out their inner child and help the community by participating in Halloween this year.
    "We dress up, and trick or treat for cans," senior Dana Mustafa said. Improving the Durham community is just one of many goals the People of the World club reach for every year. To achieve this goal members will be asking for cans instead of candy on Halloween night in the Hardscrabble Plantation neighborhood. The club expects up to 200 lbs of can foods to match the previous years. The cans will be donated to food drives around Durham.
