The Pirates' Hook, Riverside's prize-winning student newspaper, is distributed monthly to 2200 students and staff. The Hook serves as a student voice and student perspective on our school, community, and world.

The Pirates' Hook was named an All-American newpaper by the National Scholastic Press Association in 1993,1994, and 1998 and was awarded the Tar Heel Award as a top-ranked North Carolina school newspaper in 1993,1997,2000,2002, 2004 2007 and 2009.

Five editors have been awarded the Herald-Sun Front Page Award for outstanding journalist: Erin Iannacchione, Emily Bliss, Jonathan McNeill, Fei Chi, and Zach White.
