It came as a shock to junior Esaiah Hester when his name was announced as a nominee for September student of the month. "I was very surprised when I found out I was nominated for student of the month, but it feels really good," Hester said. "I finally feel like my hard work has been noticed."
Hester was nominated by Engineering teacher, Tim Velegol, as well as coach David Hackney. "I had [Esaiah] as a freshman, he wasn't very well disciplined and relied heavily on other students, but he's come a long way in the past two years. He now works very diligently and not only has he done very well academically but he has also been a pleasure to be around. He's pleasant and friendly and he is always smiling," Velegol said.
In addition to Hester, seven other students received nominations for the September student of the month:
Yasmine Alston
Kiwan Rogers
Rubiel Cruz-Joachin
Tarkia Royster
Niya Johnson
Alix Wicker
Oleg Nepliouev
"The administration looks for teachers to provide feedback on notable student achievements and improvements on a monthly basis," Velegol said.
The students will be treated to a luncheon during 3rd period on Thurs., Sept. 22 at Rudinos subs.
