Mariachi in the library on Friday

Mariachi music is coming to Riverside this Friday in the media center. During all three lunches, junior Ana Cristina Aguila Vélez will be singing sweet lullabies to anyone looking for a concert in the library.

"Yo empecé a cantar cuando tenía 3 años," dijo Aguila. "Mi papá es músico, y él me enseñó a cantar."
"I started singing when I was 3 years old," Aguila said. "My father is a musician and he taught me how to sing."

Shown here is a promo video of Aguila singing "Cucurrucucu Paloma" dressed in her spirit week costume. Come to the media center on Friday for a full performance.

Cucurrucucu Paloma: Letra en Español
Dicen que por las noches
no más se le iba en puro llorar;
con sus puertitas de par en par;
Cucurrucucú paloma, cucurrucucú no llores.
Las piedras jamás, paloma,
¿qué van a saber de amores?
Cucurrucucú, cucurrucucú,
Cucurrucucú, cucurrucucú,
cucurrucucú, paloma, ya no le llores

Cucurrucucu Paloma: Lyrics in English
They say that at nights
He simply went through by just crying
They say that he wasn’t eating
It simply didn’t suit him just taking (some food)
They swear that the sky itself
Was vibrating by listening his weeping
How he was suffering for her,
And even when he was dying he was calling at her:
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay he was singing
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay he was wailing
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay he was singing
He was dying from mortal passion.
That a sad dove
Very early in the morning will sing
At the lonely house
Whose small doors are widely open
They swear that this dove
Is no other (thing) than his soul,
That is still waiting
For the unhappy (woman) to return.
Cucurrucucú dove, cucurrucucú don’t cry.
The stones never, dove,
What will they now of loves?
Cucurrucucú, cucurrucucú,
Cucurrucucú, cucurrucucú,
Cucurrucucú, dove, don’t cry anymore
