Imagine, a house built from coins. It sounds unearthly. Yet, that is what Habitat for Humanity has begun working towards.
Habitat has organized a coin drive set to begin on Mon., Oct. 12 to run for two weeks. The money will benefit the construction of a home for a Durham family. The first period class with the most money raised will be treated to a Bojangles breakfast.
"The coin drive last year was the most successful, we raised over $900," Biology teacher Laura Roberson said.
Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that builds homes all over the world for families that otherwise could not afford one. Various groups in the community get together through the Youth United organization. The groups are then responsible for raising funds during the fall to later begin construction on the home in the spring.
The club meets every other Thursday in room 221 and is open to anyone at anytime. Roberson encourages everyone to make an effort to be involved. "We want everyone to give generously, and even enjoy a free breakfast." Roberson said.
