The swimming season has begun. Practice is in full swing and the team is looking forward to the upcoming season.
This year's team has about 40 swimmers of all different skill levels. "I joined the team because I didn't know how to swim and I wanted to learn," junior Van Duong said, "I just really like the people. We are like one big family."
Like the rest of the team, Duong practices from 5:30 a.m. - 6:45 a.m. several mornings a week. Practices are offered every morning but swimmers are only required to attend three practices a week. However, swimmers participating in club practices throughout the week, are only required to attend one Riverside practice. |

Members of the Interact club were shocked and disappointed when they found out that they were not allowed to serve families at the Ronald McDonald house for fear of the swine flu.

After four overtime sessions and several rounds of penalty kicks, the men's varsity soccer team defeated Millbrook High School in an exhausting and exhilarating 4-2 victory on Wed., Nov. 4, thereby advancing to the second round of the state playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
A first-half goal scored by senior Sam Dunderdale put the Pirates ahead early, but Millbrook fought back in the second-half to tie the game at 1-1 at the end of regulation. The teams endured two 10-minute overtimes and an additional pair of 5-minute sudden death periods with no score on either end, at which point the teams conducted a five-round shootout.
Seniors Stephen Freeman and Dennis Hodge and junior Zabarle Kollie successfully converted penalty kick attempts for the Pirates. Millbrook made its first attempt, but missed its second attempt over the goal. Two saves by junior goalkeeper Ivan Ramirez clenched the victory for the Pirates. |

Theater teacher Corrie Davis will be directing Picnic, and theater teacher Kee Strong will be directing The Glass Menagerie. Strong is very proud of her students' work in such a challenging play.
