September Students of the month receive recognition
Wednesday, 21 October 2009

It came as a shock to junior Esaiah Hester when his name was announced as a nominee for September student of the month. "I was very surprised when I found out I was nominated for student of the month, but it feels really good," Hester said. "I finally feel like my hard work has been noticed."
Hester was nominated by Engineering teacher, Tim Velegol, as well as coach David Hackney. "I had [Esaiah] as a freshman, he wasn't very well disciplined and relied heavily on other students, but he's come a long way in the past two years. He now works very diligently and not only has he done very well academically but he has also been a pleasure to be around. He's pleasant and friendly and he is always smiling," Velegol said.

Pirates finish off Falcons
Tuesday, 20 October 2009

Pirates spike Falcons in Volleyball Final   When the varsity women's volleyball players stepped onto the court to face Jordan for senior night on Mon., Oct. 19, a lot was at stake.
For one, the Pirates hoped to end three consecutive losses on senior night in previous years. They also sought to gain a tie for second place in the PAC-6 and a revenge for a loss to the Falcons earlier in the season.
Luckily, they were up to the challenge - the Pirates defeated Jordan in four games. After losing the first game by a wide margin, the Pirates came back to win the next three games for a senior night victory.
"Senior night was really intense this year. We were playing for more than just our last home game," senior Jamie Williams said.

New club has students tied up
Monday, 19 October 2009

The word is spreading like wildfire about the Bow Tie club, started by World Religions and history teacher James Hopkins.
The up and coming after school club will teach students how to tie a bow tie, and will teach simple etiquette lessons like table manners.
Hopkins was inspired to start the club by exceptional children teacher Paul Keene and student teacher Alec Macalay; both regularly wear bow ties and are co-advisers of the club.
"I think students like 'different', so they'd be receptive to join a club that's never existed before," Hopkins said.

Diplomacy club takes over in new video
Friday, 16 October 2009

Who to invade next?    On most Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 14 students are trying to take over Europe. These students are members of the Diplomacy club.
The club meets every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons in room 217. The club is centered around the board game "Diplomacy" itself, a game based around alliances, strategy, trust, and lies. See the video by Charlotte McEwen and Maria Hoover.
The board is a map of Europe and each team is one of the seven European powers, beginning in 1901. For each country there are two players working to successfully take over the surrounding countries and dominate Europe. Each country begins with a certain amount of fleets and armies based around supply centers and they are working to gain as many of those supply centers as possible.
