In previous years, the PSAT given has been free to all sophomores and juniors in DPS schools. However, due to the recent budget cuts, only sophomores are guaranteed to take the test for free.
The first 23 juniors to sign up for the test take the test for free, all juniors after that have to pay a $13 dollar fee.
"I signed up right away so I could take [the test]for free. I want to take it because it will help prepare me to get a good score on the SAT," junior Davis Blount said.

Iron Man, the Hulk, and Superman. All iconic superheroes that have dominated comic books for decades. Now, Riverside students will have the opportunity to create their own iconic comics at the Crossbones.
"The Crossbones is a club where kids can come and make their own comics or graphic art," founder senior Jacob Streilein said.
Streilein, a well-known Congressional Art award winning student, along with senior Taylor Ellis, will be conducting the club and all of its activities. The club will participate in activities such as viewing movie trailers, looking at other artists' works for inspiration, and of course, making their own comics. |

Junior Zabarle Kollie, a member of the Riverside soccer team, and his '91 Triangle United Gold soccer team made it all the way to the National Championship game in Boston, MA this summer. Kollie's team lost 3-2 in the finals, but the experience was memorable.
"It was all around great," Kollie said. "It was a different level of play. It was all about who wanted it the most. The pressure got to us early in the game and I feel like we could have played much better. It was disappointing to come up short." |

The Pirates' men's varsity soccer team started the season strong with two substantial wins and one tie. On Mon., Aug. 20, the varsity soccer team defeated DSA 8-0 in their first home game of the season. The next two games were against Cary Academy which ended in another 8-0 victory, and Wake Forest Rolesville ending in a tie 2-2.
“I'm definitely satisfied with how the season is going so far,” Junior Gabe Rivera said, “I wish we could have pulled out a win against Rolesville but a tie is better than a loss.”
Although feeling confident, the soccer team plans to keep working hard and getting better as the season progresses. They still feel like they need to focus on what awaits them for the rest of the season.

With less than a second remaining and rain pouring down on the field, junior Carson Sterling booted home a game-winning field goal to secure the Pirates' first victory of the season over Apex High School.
The Pirates made an impressive comeback to win the game 9-8. “I thought we were in it the whole time, and that we were going to win,” senior Andrew Evans said. Despite Evans' confidence, the outlook was not bright when Apex scored on the opening drive to lead Riverside 8-0.
Entering the third quarter trailing behind, sophomore Jevon Abney scored a touchdown narrowing the deficit to 8-6. With 1:52 left in the game, seniors Chauncey Burgess and Andrew Evans used their determination to drive down the field from their own 10-yard line.
“Andrew Evans and his receiving offense engineered a drive for the ages,” senior Steven Greer said.
