Student Spends Break Helping in Haiti

Salmon and Haitian Child    While many students spend spring break visiting family, going to the beach, or just relaxing, few get the rare experience of going to a foreign country to work and help those less fortunate.  Sophomore Carly Davis and junior Morgan Salmon are joining their church, Ridgecrest Baptist, on a mission trip to Haiti.
“I went last year and I’m really excited to go back,” Davis said.  “Their positive attitudes inspired me to work harder for them.”
The church group will be there for a week doing a variety of work with three different church and school compounds.
“The work changes every year-every day even,” Salmon said.  “We do a lot of building, cleaning up, painting and spend a lot of time playing with the children-that’s a really important part of what we do.”
Both Salmon and Davis feel very strongly about the work, and the people they have encountered being in Haiti.
“The whole experience is just so rewarding,” Salmon said.  “It just completely changes your perspective and makes you so appreciative of the things we all have and take for granted.”
